EXPERIENCE WITH THE USE OF RODOS IN EMERGENCY CENTERS AND REASONS FOR THE RE-DESIGN OF RODOS |

| Dear Florian, my question is about the role of the RODOS system in the case of real emergency. Is it assumed (according to actual legislation and real practice) that decision maker should mechanically follow the advices of RODOS, or he has essential degree of freedom in his decisions? What is the actual way for decision maker to make a decision in the case of emergency? |

Hi, regarding your question: In case of a real nuclear or radiological emergency the RODOS system will provide an assessment of the radiological situation (doses and contaminations) and also indicate where reference levels (defined by law or regulations) for doses/contaminations are exceeded and thus countermeasures are probably required. As these advices are based on information with quite high uncertainties and also only consider the radiological situation and not other considerations (like political or social constraints) such advices will never be fully or automatically realised but serve as basis for decisions on countermeasures to be made on a political level. For example, if RODOS indicates the in half of a village reference doses for countermeasures are exceeded, the one in charge of emergency management will most probable decide to e.g. evacuate the whole village for practical reasons! I hope this information is helpful for you, best regards Florian Gering |
